Co2 Cylinder Selection

Material

Aluminium and alloy are the two types of CO2 cylinders available. When compared to Alloy, Aluminium is slightly more expensive, but provides significant benefits because it weighs less, has a polished surface, and does not rust.

Size

When selecting your Co2 cylinder, do ensure that it can fit into your cabinet along with your regulator.

Selecting the right cylinder size for your aquarium, a 2 liter Co2 cylinder will last 3-4 months with 1 bubble per second for 8 hours a day in a standard 2 feet fish tank. Below is the recommendation for tank size to cylinder size:

Nano - 30cm 30cm - 45cm 60cm - 90cm 90cm and above
0.5L - 1L
0.8L - 2L
2L - 4L

Thread

In Asia W21.8 thread head is commonly used, the thread head is the thread connecting to your regulator, when purchasing a cylinder do avoid G5/8 thread head, as this is commonly used in the USA only. All Townbright cylinders and regulators are W21.8 thread head.

Used Co2 Cylinder Recertification




The manufacturing date is printed on the cylinder.





The cylinder must be recertified every 5 years in Singapore. Recertification will cost around $20 and will last for another 5 years.

Most aquarium shops provide refill service but it is not immediate refill.

Things to Take Note When Using The Co2 System




Do not place CO2 Cylinder under the sun or hot area



Do not place CO2 Cylinder in a damp area if using Alloy cylinder



Use a check valve to prevent water from flowing back into the cylinder
